What Is a Commercial Vacuum? Which One Is Best Designed to Fit Your Needs?

Whether it is hundreds of files stored in your office or thousands of books in the school library; dust and dirt can reach just about anywhere. Sweepers and cleaners will do their job well but some amount of dust and dirt will still remain. Whether it is an office building, a school, hospital, super market, industrial space, hotel or any other commercial or industrial building; it is important to clean in such a way that dust and dirt is removed. This is where professional cleaning services come into the picture but then their charges can be outrageous. Is there any other solution?

There certainly is a solution and it is a one-time investment-buy a commercial vacuum. Using a commercial vacuum cleaner or even floor polishers and floor extraction cleaners, you can keep youroffice space free of dust and dirt. Dirt and dust not only accumulated on the floors but also on furniture and in places where your hand might not reach. This is where commercial vacuum cleaners will be extremely useful.

Choosing a Commercial Vacuum Cleaner

Vacuum Cleaner Canister

Depending on your requirements including the type of building, you will need to choose a commercial vacuum cleaner. Some of the top brands offering commercial vacuum cleaners includes Eureka, Hoover, Electrolux-Sanitaire, and Royal although the top two brands of vacuum cleaners are Sanitaire and Royal. You can even buy floor cleaners and floor polishers extraction from Sanitaire or Royal as well.

What Is a Commercial Vacuum? Which One Is Best Designed to Fit Your Needs?

When choosing a vacuum cleaner, you need to know the types of commercial cleaners available and how they can satisfyyour need/requirement. There are basically two types of vacuums: commercial uprights and canister vacuums. Both types of vacuums have their advantages and disadvantages. Here is an insight into both types of vacuum cleaners:

Important Aspects of Commercial Vacuum Cleaners

One of the important things is that whether you are buying Sanitaire or Royal commercial vacuums, you need to choose those models that offer you more value for money. Sanitaire and Royal commercial vacuums are definitely the best in the market but they have different models that satisfy different requirements/needs. Here are some of the important aspects that you need to keep an eye out for:

a) Motor power: Motor power determines the performance of all vacuums. If your office has a huge pile of files and books and other inventory that regularly accumulates dust then you will need a commercial vacuum with a minimum of 8.5-amp motor although 12 amps is considered as ideal. For floor cleaning, you can even use the SC6005A Floor Machine w/ 15″ Brush. There are different types of floor polishers and floor extraction cleaners that can be used but ensure that the minimum power is 10hp.

b) Cleaning Path: You need to choose a Sanitaire or Royal vacuum that offers the widest cleaning path within your budget. For example: You can get a 13-inch cleaning path using a 12-amp motor with the Royal RY5300 Commercial Upright Vacuum Cleaner, which is perfect.

c) Filtration: Both Royal and Sanitaire commercial vacs offer some of the best filtration technologies in the industry for a price that you can afford. Both brands offer HEPA filters as a part of their standard equipment. This is a recommended feature because it will ensure that your office or school, hospital or industrial space remains dust-free and allergy-free. In case, you are unable to find HEPA Sanitaire vacuums in your city then you can even opt for 2-stage filtration commercial vacuum cleaners.

Last but not the least, always ask for manufacturer’s warranty and what all it covers. At the end of the day, a commercial vacuum cleaner will remain as one of the most important assets. After all, a clean office reflects a professional image!

Suction Problem – Troubleshooting on Vacuum Cleaners

The main purpose of a vacuum cleaner is to agitate fibers in a carpet and suck up any debris. There are six different reasons a vacuum can lose suction, a plugged vacuum hose, bad motor, full vacuum bag, or cracked or damage hoses. Purchasing a vacuum cleaner can be a costly expense while repairing the suction on the unit can be virtually free. Most suction loss problems on a vacuum can be easily fixed or remedied with common house hold tools and very little technical expertise.

If your vacuum losses suction, the first and easiest solution is to check the bag. If the vacuum cleaner bag is full suction will be greatly reduced and the unit will become ineffective. A vacuum cleaner works by passing air through the bag fibers leaving dirt and debris behind inside the bag. If the refuse bag becomes full, airflow is restricted, limiting the amount of air passing through the vacuum bag resulting in loss of suction. When replacing the vacuum bag always consult your owners manual to insure that the vacuum bag seals with the vacuum inlet hose. If your vacuum cleaner bag is not tightly sealed to the vacuum inlet hose you will decrease the air flow through the bag resulting in loss of suction.

Vacuum Cleaner Canister

The second and sometimes most common reason for loss of suction on a vacuum is a plugged vacuum hose. If the hose becomes plugged, air flow will become restricted. To unplug a vacuum hose detach it from the machine and inspect the inside. If there is a restriction in the hose, remove it with your fingers and replace the hose onto the unit. If the hose is long and the debris is hard to get too, a broom handle or other long object can be passed through the hose to dislodge the debris. Most vacuum cleaners contain more that one suction hose, so make sure to check each one by process of elimination. Another area that can become easily plugged on a vacuum cleaner is under the lower base of the unit by the roller brush. Large debris can get caught in this area and restrict air flow to the hose.

Suction Problem – Troubleshooting on Vacuum Cleaners

If your vacuum refuse bag is not full and the suction hoses are not plugged the next thing to check is the condition of the hoses. Many hoses are made from plastic which can easily tear or crack. If your vacuum cleaner shows signs of wear or are cracked they need to be replaced. Even the smallest hole in a vacuum hose can leak enough air to greatly diminish the suction potential of your unit. Replace your vacuum cleaner parts with OEM parts from the original manufacturer to ensure the tightest fit.

Most vacuum cleaners contain filters. Filters are used as a last line of defense to remove dust and smaller debris particles before the air is recycled back into the environment. If vacuum cleaner filters become dirty or plugged they also can decrease the amount of air traveling through the unit. Some filters can be easily rinsed with water whereas others need to be replaced. It is important to check your owners manual before rinsing a vacuum filter.

The last and probably least common problem for a vacuum cleaner to loose suction is a bad or failing vacuum motor. Over time vacuum motors lose power due to worn carbon brushes or long term damage. A vacuum cleaners worst enemy is moisture. If water or moisture is sucked into the vacuum motor it will greatly diminish the amount of suction the unit has. Replacing a vac motor can be a costly and time consuming ordeal. In some cases, replacing a vacuum motor can outweigh the cost of buying a new vacuum. Vacuum suction is measured in water lift which can easily be measured by using a water lift gauge. If the water lift measured in inches, falls below half the original water lift specifications for the unit, it is time to replace your motor. Most vacuum cleaner repair shops carry this type of equipment and can easily tell you if it is time for a new vac motor.

50 Ideas to Organize Your Home

“Organize” is a familiar word heard on many of today’s popular decorating shows. Every family has its struggles with some type of clutter whether it is stacks of papers or a cluttered and cramped bathroom. In fact, the National Association of Professional Organizers reports that 80% of what we keep we never use, we wear 20% of the clothes we own while the other 80% hangs there just in case, and 25% of adults say they pay bills late because they lost them.

If you have stacks of papers, frazzled mornings, or lost car keys, use the following ideas to help you organize your family and home.

Vacuum Cleaner Canister

Evenings/Mornings:

50 Ideas to Organize Your Home

1. If you have rushed mornings, make lunches, set out clothes, and put everything you need for the next day in a designated area the night before. Have kids pack homework and books in their backpack so they will be ready for the next day.

2. Place your purse, briefcase and keys in a designated area every day so you always know where they are.

3. Decide the night before what is on the menu for breakfast the next morning. If the family is to have cereal, set out the cereal boxes, bowls, and spoons.

4. Make a “to do” list for the next day and organize it according to what task needs to be completed first.

5. Fill the gas tank the day before so you won’t have to worry about getting gas if you are running late the next morning.

Bathrooms:

6. To organize countertop clutter, purchase a plastic tub with a handle on top. Place all of your accessories such as hair spray and lotion, in the tub and place under the counter. Take the tub out when you are ready to use it and then put it back under the counter when you are finished with it.

7. To organize your shower, buy shower caddies to place your soaps and shampoos in. There are numerous styles available in many discount and fine department stores.

8. To help keep your shower doors clean, buy a water squeegee (like you use on your windows) and place it in the shower. When you are done taking a shower just wipe down the doors with the squeegee and you’ll have a clean and dry shower door. Many of the squeegees come with a whole in the handle, which is convenient for hanging it up in the shower with a suction cup.

9. Install a straight magnet in your medicine cabinet for tweezers, nail clippers, and scissors.

10. Store reading material in a decorative magazine rack. As you add new magazines, throw away the older ones to keep the magazine rack from overflowing.

11. Throw away items in your bathroom that are old or you don’t use anymore, such as make-up, lotions, prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, old razors, sunscreen, and perfume.

12. If you are out of space in your bathroom cabinets for towels, roll them up and display them in a decorative basket next to the shower or bath tub.

13. Install hooks on the back of your bathroom door or wall space for towels and robes.

14. Use drawer organizers for makeup, jewelry, ponytail holders, and other loose items.

15. Place a shelving unit above the toilet for storing extra towels, washcloths, and other accessories.

16. Put a clock in each bathroom so everyone can be on time.

Closet:

17. Place baskets in your closet for laundry and dry cleaning.

18. Sort through your clothes and anything you don’t wear anymore, bag and donate to a local charity. This includes clothes that are no longer in fashion, no longer fit, or clothes you haven’t worn in a year. Also, get rid of those worn out and/or uncomfortable shoes you no longer wear.

19. Separate your clothes by season. If you have a tall closet with several rows of rods, place current seasons clothes on the lowest level and move out of season clothes on the tallest rods.

20. Categorize your clothes by purpose, such as work, casual, and formal.

21. Gather all unused wire hangers and take them to the dry cleaners to recycle.

22. Hang scarves on a hanger or scarf rack. Also, hang belts and ties on hangers or racks.

23. Use a shoe rack to keep shoes organized and throw out shoe boxes that clutter the floor.

24. Install hooks on the closet wall to hang up hats and purses.

25. Store clothes that you want to save in a vacuum sealed plastic bag. These bags pack down for storing under the bed or in a closet. Remember to save only the clothes that you think will be worn!

Kitchen:

26. Organize your cabinets into several categories such as plates, glasses, Tupperware, kid’s plates and sippy cups. Place the plates on one shelf, the glasses on another shelf, and so on. This way when you empty the dishwasher, you or other family members will always know where everything goes.

27. Group your foods together in the pantry for easy access and to help you identify when inventory is getting low. For example, group together your canned goods, cereals, pasta, etc.

28. Place all packets (gravy, Jell-O, sauces) in a basket and place on shelf.

29. Purchase a spice rack that works best for your cabinet. Alphabetize your spices and place frequently used spices on the front of the rack and all others towards the back of the rack.

30. For all of those plastic containers and Tupperware items, dedicate one cabinet or drawer for those items and try to purchase stackable containers to maximize your space.

31. Save your countertop space for items you use daily. Only display cookbooks that you really use and if possible store your canister set in your pantry instead of on the counter.

32. If you have a collection of clipped recipes that are filling drawers and countertop space, purchase a three-ring binder in a color that matches your decor, a box of plastic sheet protectors (to protect your recipes), paper, and a set of dividers with tabs. Glue each recipe onto a piece of paper (use front and back of each piece of paper) and then place into a sheet protector. Categorize recipes (breakfast, desert, etc.), label the tabs, and place recipes in binder. Additional tip, if you purchase a binder that has pockets, store clipped recipes that you want to try in the pockets before adding them to your collection.

33. Do you have mounds of plastic bags from the grocery store? Place about 10 bags inside of 1 bag and throw the rest away. You can always get more the next time you go to the grocery store.

34. Get in a habit of cleaning out your refrigerator every time you bring home groceries. Dispose of any food that is no longer edible or your family is not going to eat.

Kid’s Room:

35. In a boy’s room, put a basketball hoop over a laundry basket for slam-dunking dirty clothes.

36. Place a two-compartment hamper in your kid’s room so he or she can sort light clothes from dark clothes as they undress.

37. String a clothesline in your child’s room and have your child clothespin his or her favorite artwork.

38. Hang a fish net from the ceiling to store stuffed animals, dolls, or action figures.

39. Add a bookshelf and help your child organize their books.

40. Buy the kids their own alarm clocks and teach them how to get up on time.

Misc.

41. Make sure everything in your house has a home. Teach all family members to mind their own messes. For example, if you take it out, put it back; if you open it, close it; if you throw it down, pick it up; if you make a mess, clean it up; and so on.

42. Put wastebaskets in every room and place several unused trash bags in the bottom of each one. This will eliminate countless trips to retrieve new trash bags and give all family members a place to throw away their trash.

43. Place a decorative basket on the coffee table to keep remote controls in.

44. Use a plastic caddy (instead of shelf space) to store cleaning supplies in and tote it from room to room.

45. Keep baskets or tubs for toys in every room for fast pickup and play time.

46. For kids’ outdoor toys, purchase a weatherproof, bench-style storage box and store toys inside. Also, gather all outdoor balls and place into a large, mesh drawstring bag and store in garage.

47. Each night before bedtime, have all family members pick up clutter for 15 minutes. Make a game out of it and see who can pick up the most things in the shortest amount of time.

48. Create a family message center on the refrigerator or other prominent place and use it for shopping lists, reminders, calendars, and phone messages.

49. Make a master grocery list on your computer from a spreadsheet or Word document. Categorize the groceries into sections such as frozen, dairy, and so on. In each category, list the most frequent items that you buy. Organize the grocery list according to the way your favorite grocery store’s isles are set up. Print copies and keep one copy handy for the current week. When you see you are low on a product or you’re preparing your grocery list for the week, simply highlight whatever items you need. Keep the document current by adding new items and/or deleting items you no longer buy. Also, create a space on the document for Misc. items where your family members can write down what they need that is not on your list.

50. Create an in box on your desk for papers (bills, permission slips, etc.) that need your attention.

The goal of organizing isn’t to make your home pristine but rather to make your life more calm and functional. Work with the above ideas and you will end up having less clutter, a simplified home, more quality time for yourself and your family, and improved productivity.

It is easy to clean – just take the dust collecting container off, empty it and hook it back to your vacuum.

Another option is a Fantom Fury which is a dual cyclonic and bagless vacuum. The best thing about it is that it has a HEPA filter, which means that no dust escapes it and blows back to your home. It has several handy attachments that are placed in the handle of your vacuum. This lets you access them easily when you need them.

They are suitable not only for carpet, but for all floor surfaces. Throwing dust from a container is much more convenient than dealing with disposable or washable vacuum bags.

The only disadvantage of a bagless vacuum cleaner is that when emptying your vacuum, you come in direct contact with dust. So you should keep it away from your face. It is also a good idea, to unhook your dust collector outside, to minimize dust returning to your home.

Best Lightweight Vacuum Cleaners For the Elderly

Not everyone may be able to handle a heavy vacuum cleaner. It’s a good thing that most vacuum manufacturers nowadays are coming up with lighter versions of the standard vacuum. These small cleaners are the best options for people who can’t otherwise handle large machines and equipment because of age and general disposition.

Lightweight is great for the elderly and people suffering from certain medical conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis. These vacuums often weigh less than ten pounds and won’t break your back or do damage to your spine. They’re easier to move around as the length of the handle is shorter and the motor is smaller and generally lighter. Some small vacuum cleaners even come without cords or bags that otherwise add more weight to the machine. So anyone can practically clean in less time as you can quite easily move from one area to another area without having to attach and detach plug from the electrical outlet. It definitely saves time and effort.

Vacuum Cleaner Canister

Most of these lightweight vacuums come complete with accessories found on larger, heavier vacuum cleaners. If you’re worried that this type of vacuum won’t do the job well, worry no more as you’ll find that lightweight vacuums can also reach high ceilings and tall cabinets to catch dirt and dust with the use of brush attachments and extension wands for hard to reach parts of the house. With crevice tools, you can clean around legs of chairs and bases of hard to move and heavy furniture. Some even come with rotating brushes and bare floor brush ideal for cleaning braided rugs and carpets.

Eureka Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner, 4870MZ Overview

The BOSS SMART VAC captures dirt other cleaners don’t and on more surfaces. This model has an Eureka patented SEALED HEPA system . A system that filters all the fine dirt through the HEPA filter for cleaner indoor air. It comes complete with on-board tools and a Power Paw Turbo that’s designed for vertical cleaning of stairs and upholstery.

Eureka Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner, 4870MZ Specifications

Let’s face it. Most vacuums just don’t cut it when it comes to really cleaning a home or office. Pesky pet hair embeds deeper in carpet than traditional vacuums go; bits and pieces of tracked-in dirt and debris hunker down under floor trim just out of reach of the latest brush innovations, rendering us to the silliness of handpicking behind that expensive vacuum, filling our pockets with lint, and wondering–who’s really the boss? Troubles like these made the folks at Eureka get down and dirty and, ultimately, design the Boss Smart-Vac Upright Vacuum.

Offering powerful performance for everyday household cleaning, the Eureka Boss is the solution for people who insist on having a truly clean home. The Boss’s Direct Air Control System features an air selector switch that lets you direct all suction either deep into the carpet or to the hose for easy above-the-floor cleaning.

The Power Paw brush makes it easy to clean stairs and upholstery, and even claws up embedded pet hair, so Fido can spend more time inside. The motorized brush lets you go from carpet to bare-floor cleaning with the flick of a switch. The Boss Smart-Vac is powered by a beefy, 12-amp motor that provides plenty of suction power for deep-cleaning carpets, and leaves nothing behind on hard floors.

Captures Dirt on More Surfaces

Pretty smart, right? Well, here’s the really smart part. The Boss Smart-Vac isn’t just the best household carpet- and floor-cleaning vacuum on the market; it’s also equipped with a unique, sealed, HEPA filtration system that captures 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, allergens, and bacteria. So, vacuuming the house doesn’t mean you have to dust afterward, or sneeze while you’re doing it. Cleaner carpets and cleaner indoor air at the same time.

Ideal for people who need to reduce allergens in the home

Plus, the Boss comes loaded with user-friendly features to take the frustration out of vacuuming. A wide 15-inch cleaning path covers a lot of ground quickly before company comes. In addition, the exclusive dust trap system captures debris and dust in three stages. A handy stretch hose extends to five times its original length for reaching around furniture and sucking the cobwebs off the ceiling. And, a 30-foot cord won’t leave you coming up short. The bare floor brush is designed to smoothly glide across wood and tile floors while picking up more dust and debris in corners and along baseboards than any other model. One extra Type-R belt and one bonus bag come included. The vacuum cleaner measures 12 by 15 by 44 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Getting the Best Results

• This vacuum cleaner creates suction and contains a revolving brush roll. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.

• Do not place vacuum cleaner on furniture or stairs as the brush roll may cause damage. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. Place vacuum cleaner on floor with the handle in storage position while using attachments.

• Do not use without dust bag, motor filter and HEPA filter in place.

• Remove hair and threads from brush roll periodically.

• This vacuum cleaner has a special thermostat that protects the vacuum in case of motor overheating. If the vacuum suddenly shuts off, push the power switch to off and unplug the vacuum. Check the vacuum for a possible source of overheating such as a full dust bag, blocked hose, clogged tubes or clogged filter. If these conditions are found, fix them and wait at least 30 minutes before attempting to use the vacuum. After the 30 minute period, plug the vacuum back in and turn on the switch.

Easy Cleaning Steps

  1. For bare floor cleaning, push brush roll control lever firmly to lock in ‘bare floor’setting to stop brush roll.
  2. Turn height adjustment knob to bare floor position.
  3. If brush roll still rotates, control lever is not engaged properly.
  4. Loosen hose end from back of vacuum.
  5. Place tool on end of wand or hose.
